Call for Abstracts - Manufacturing Readiness Process

Chairperson – Gary Stanley

MRL Afternoon Session Wednesday

This session will provide you with a good understanding on where the Department of Defense (DoD) is with implementing Manufacturing Readiness Levels (MRLs). Each of the three Services (i.e., Air Force, Army, and Navy) will provide a status on where they are in implementing MRLs into their Science and Technologies (S&T) and Acquisition programs. A representative from the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Systems Engineering (DASD(SE)) organization will provide an overview on how they are addressing manufacturing readiness and risk assessment. You should leave this session with an excellent understanding on the status of implementing MRLs on DoD programs.

MRL Afternoon Session Thursday

This session will be a joint effort between Industry and Government. Industry will provide a quick overview on their status in implementing MRLs and the benefits they are seeing. There are two major joint efforts that are being used to develop and deploy the MRL process across DoD programs. These two joint efforts are the MRL Working Group and the annual MRL Workshop. This session will give an update of these two activities and present some new products that will be available to MRL users in the near future. In addition this session will provide you the feedback received at the MRL Workshop on proposed changes to the process and potentially some new requirements. The last effort will be an overview of a new initiative by NDIA to obtain a more complete picture from industry on issues they are experiencing in implementing MRLs. The new initative is the creation of an Industry MRL working group only. The Industry MRL working group will go over their charter, membership, and vision.  This afternoon session should provide you will useful insight into how the MRL development process is working and more importantly how you can participate in that process.
